One of the many perks about living in central California is the ability to drive 2 hours and be in basically any landscape. we are a short drive to the ocean, snow, mountains, hills, farms...really anything, and its fabulous! One of my favorite places to go is the not so hidden gem called Yosemite National Park... ever heard of it?...yeah its amazing haha :) . when phil was home we decided that we must go before he deploys to Afghanistan, so thats exactly what we did.
its was kinda a last minute trip but we decided to load up the car and go. I am so happy we did! The many waterfalls that yosemite boasts were overflowing with water, and the many wildflowers were bursting at the seams. It was so gorgeous and the weather was beyond perfect. although all of the many walks we took, and the many waterfalls we hiked to, my very favorite and memorable event included none of these very things.
after walking and driving around the park for quite some time, me and phil were working up quite an appetite. after seeing many people picnicking it up, we decided that we couldnt think of a better way to eat lunch and wanted to picnic as well. so we drove and FINALLY found a place to get some food.we decided on sandwhiches , and then hopped back in the car in search of our perfect grassy null to plop down on and munch on our wonderfully delicious sandwhich creations. i had a vision in mind...a spot far from the hustle and bustle of tourists and a spot covered with pine trees and where i could see little critters running around....all while enjoying our meal and the company of my best friend. yeah...quite the vision right? so we drove around and around and we finally decided on a spot. a picnic area that was off the road and there wasnt really any people around! it was a great little spot, so we grabbed my green crocheted blanket and threw in on the grass and sat down to enjoy our wonderful caprese sandwhiches ( fresh mozzerella, tomatoes, basil and a wonderful balsalmic dressing...YUMM)
this was our perfect little place! so we were just hanging out enjoy the beauty of this place when all of the sudden i heard some wrestling in the bushes behind us. So in curiosity i turn around and see this bear(which is much larger than my liking) run behind us and stop. it was probably about like 15 feet from us which was also much closer than my liking. I screamed...picked up everything in one swoop and ran to the car. Phil on the other hand...did what probably any other guy would do. He stood there in amazement without fear of his life and wanted to take pictures of the thing. I yelled at him to get in the car..becuase i didnt want him to get attacked, but he said in his usual voice " calm down" and coaxed me out from behind the car and had me get him the camera. i didnt want to but im glad i did cuase now i get to share pictures for you of our lovely bear that interupted our oh so lovely picnic.
not so little right?

Now that i look back it was pretty cool but at the time the idea that there was a large bear behind me without my knowlege was pretty scary. The rest of the day i felt on guard just incase another bear decided to make a suprise appearance. we were cracking up about it the whole rest of the day, how i ran like a baby (which probably wasnt the smartest thing to do) and how phillip stood unwavering in the site of danger (which doesnt suprise me becuase i have a stud of an army boyfriend..i mean c'mon a bear is nothing for this guy aha) . it was a good story, i still laugh about it now as i type this. So although the waterfalls and spring flowers were fun...this bear became our little trips highlight. so thanks bear you brought some excitement into my little life
Heres some more pics from our lovely adventure!
gorgeous isnt it?

Love him!
